I help early childhood teachers grow confident, meaningful gardening programmes that nurture children’s curiosity, wellbeing, and connection to the natural world.

I’m a qualified early childhood educator with over 20 years teaching experience. I have taught in early childhood settings, and in tertiary education.  Since 2018 I have been working alongside early childhood teams across Aotearoa to bring gardening into their everyday practice. 

​

My passion for growing food began in childhood, and it has stayed with me ever since.

 

Today, from my home in Christchurch, I grow seasonal food in my own vegetable garden. That hands-on experience, combined with my teaching background, allows me to bridge the gap between educational theory and real-world practice — helping teachers create gardening experiences that are practical, purposeful, and deeply connected to children’s learning.

I also hold a Master of Education, where my research explored how prepared pre-service early childhood teachers felt to teach education for sustainability. This work made me realise that many teachers want to create meaningful sustainability experiences—but often need the confidence, knowledge, and support to know where to begin.

 

That’s where I come in.

 

Through online learning, professional development, in-person programmes, and teaching resources, I support teachers and centres to embed gardening into their curriculum in ways that align with Te Whāriki, honour children’s natural curiosity, and create authentic opportunities for learning.​​
